Interview: Emma Watson

We’re back with another interview from the stars of CON AIR 2: THE EPILOGUE. This time we have Emma Watson. Welcome, Emma. It’s great to have you here.

Thanks, it’s great to be here.

You play Terezi Pyrope in the upcoming movie. How would you describe your role?

To me Terezi’s been described as brutal, unforgiving and legally dubious, but personally to me she’s much more. She’s a emotional heart scarred by betrayals, yet motivated by amazing, unrelenting drive for justice.

How is this presented in the movie?

The beginning of the second act is a 20-minute trial led by her. The original vision for the trial was for it to last as long as an actual real-life trial, but the executives determined it would be too long.

We did shoot the entirety of it though. You’ll see it in the Director’s Cut. I’d believe it’s coming in Blu-Ray later this year.

How difficult do you find the role? It’s one of the movie’s non-human characters, so I can imagine there being a hurdle to get over when you’re acting as an alien.

The role is perfect for me. Everybody already knows me as Hermione Granger  from the smash-hit movie series Harry Potter™. Arguably, Hermione was completely a Seer, so as Seer of Mind Terezi and her have a lot in common. The difference is that I can swear like a sailor and beat people shitless, and it’s a blast.

The costume situation can be kind of a trouble. The horns, hair dye, fake teeth and colored contact lenses I can take, but sometimes the body paint is an awful thing to deal with. Of course I’ve had it relatively easy, as I joined the cast after it got a better budget from VIZ Media. Before that they had all kinds of makeshift solutions. I recall hearing one set-up involved a bunch of sharpies and a bathtub full of vodka. Shia would know all about that. He still has nightmares about it.

In Homestuck, your character has a close relationship with Vriska Serket. Does this appear in the movie?

Yes, Terezi’s entire arc revolves around this. At the end of Homestuck, she left to search for Vriska, and that continues in the movie. It’s a tragic tale, masterfully written.

Can you shed some light on the casting situation with Vriska? There’s no actor credited for her. Who is actually playing her?

No, I think she’s credited as herself, which is correct.

But who is playing Vriska?

Vriska is played by Vriska Serket, is it that hard to understand?

Who is her voice actor?

That’s an absurd question. Who is voicing me right now? Myself. Who voices Nick? He himself. It’s kind of insulting to have that asked from me.

Vriska isn’t a real person though.

Wasn’t this interview supposed to be about me and my character? Stop being obnoxious. Over the production I’ve gotten to know Vriska very well, and truly bonded with her. I’m not letting you spew this bullshit about my friend.

That’s just crazy. Vriska isn’t real.

Who authorized this interview?

Okay, I think we’re running out of time. Thank you for reading. CON AIR 2: THE EPILOGUE in theaters 4th of April 2019, 24h streams on the 13th.

Emma Watson interview was basically just another way to make more jokes in the few ways this story does: Treating Homestuck as if it were a classic piece of mainstream media, having the movie described as a absurdist masterpiece, referencing Homestuck fandom lore, actors acting weirdly, Vriska.

When I wrote this interview, I knew I’d do the Vriska interview and the way I’d do it. I didn’t know Vriska’s greater significance yet, though. That was a very late addition to the plot, actually one of the last. I’ll detail the order of things later.
